Lucid Night, drawings, acrylic markers and ink on handmade kozo paper,  2022-2023

My work intertwines line, sign, and language. Drawing, for me, is a site for the accumulation of actions, including writing in code based on Braille, and using elements from movement and choreography notation systems, and musical scores. These lose their original meaning and become tools for drawing that create a language with its own internal logic.

I treat drawing as a seismograph of sorts, a practice performed through movement in which I seek rhythms within a space that is gradually revealed and surrounds the viewer. I look for the body’s movement, yet also for the internal movements of the organs, bones, and bloodflow. I want to touch the processes and developments occurring in the physical and mental body and to convey their connection to nature and the universe,as well as the affinity between intuition and intellect.

Make a small movement, video, 2023

A continued focus on physical training and practice, arising from my own disability, led me to meet with dancer and creator Joy Bernard for dialogue and improvisation in text and movement. From this interaction, I developed a movement diary that became a video of small situations choreography.
